  • Initial online auditions/applications will occur through June 5th, 2019 or until 20 contestants are selected by the 1st panel of judges, whichever occurs LAST.

  • We suggest a recorded video with audio uploaded to our Facebook Messenger or sent to our email address.

  • Board Members will review all submissions to ensure they are appropriate and forward them to the first panel of judges.

  • The first panel will select the best representations of talent across several genres of performance.

  • Each entry will be informed of their inclusion as quickly as possible.

  • Upon approval, you can then remit your $10.00 registration fee.  You will be emailed a link for payment.

  • Selected participants should arrive no less than 30 minutes prior to their scheduled performance times to warm up, prepare to take the stage, etc.

  • You will be sharing warm-up and prep space with other performers.

  • Please be courteous, kind, and respectful of others and their property.

Eligibility

  • All are welcome to audition!!

  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  • Those under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign consent before the minor child can perform.

  • Individuals or Groups/Ensembles are welcome.  Groups must register all performers by name.  Only one entry fee is required for each act regardless of size.

Equipment Needed / Provided:

  • A sound system and stage will be available.

  • If your audition act is selected, you will then coordinate with the DJ should you need music played or additional mics, etc.  for your performance.

  • This is an OUTDOOR event, and the stage is not auditorium sized.  Larger ensembles or major dance performances may need to make adjustments.

Basic Rules

  • Limit of 3 minutes per act.  Acts that run over will be cut off and only judged on the first 3 minutes.  (Special exception will be made for an ensemble performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” should anyone be brave enough to attempt this!)

  • All talent is welcome including but not limited to music, magic, comedy, martial arts, and more.  If it’s your talent, we want to know about it.

  • Your act CANNOT include: vulgar language, vulgar innuendo, suggestive material or nudity of any kind.  This is a family show.  If you have to ask if something is too suggestive, it probably is… but we would rather you ask than be uncertain.

  • No pyrotechnics, open flames, or any other dangerous additions that could cause a liability issue.

  • No hooved animals are permitted on school grounds, and therefore cannot be part of your act.

Behavior:

  • All contestants must maintain a loving and sportsmanlike behavior.

  • We have a no tolerance policy and your participation and eligibility is at the sole discretion of Beauty After Bruises’ representatives and NYCSD.

  • We reserve the right to reject or disqualify any contestant for any reason or no reason at any time.

  • We also reserve the right to change the rules and procedures at our discretion based on unforeseen circumstances.

Judges

  • Judges will be named by Beauty After Bruises representatives.

  • They will be judging both the audition tapes and the final performance (two separate sets of judges) solely on the entertainment value of the talent exhibited during that performance.

  • The judges who see your audition recording will not be the same as those judging the day of the competition in order to prevent bias.

  • Though this is all in fun and for the benefit of the charity, we want to give performers a true opportunity to display their talent and to have it appropriately appreciated and rewarded.

  • No performer or spectator will be allowed to interfere with the judging process.

  • Judge’s decisions will be final.

Winners

  • A minimum of TWO WINNERS will be selected.

  • The Judges will select ONE Grand Prize Winner based on the performance delivered that evening.

  • A second “People’s Choice” Winner will be named based on the highest number of donated votes received.

  • Vote donations can begin to be collected PRIOR to the event and will continue throughout performances.

  • Each $1 raised equals ONE VOTE.

  • People’s Choice votes will close 5 minutes after the final performance of the night.

  • A minimum 10 minute intermission will occur for vote tabulation and Judges conference, and the Grand Prize and People’s Choice winners will be announced.
